Eating at School

A Healthy School

Healthy Schools Logo

St Lawrence C.E School is part of the National ‘Healthy Schools’ initiative, aimed at developing and promoting aspects of Personal, Social and Health Education through a range of themes. We achieved ‘Healthy Schools’ status in 2009.

Specific work is carried out on issues most applicable to our school. Parents, teaching staff, support and lunchtime staff, governors and members of the community are invited to participate and contribute to the projects, thus bringing new ideas and giving the children the opportunity to work with and benefit from the experiences of others. Feedback from all participants is welcomed, allowing the pupils to be directly involved in improving their school and the community environment.

Children may eat school meals or bring a packed lunch. A healthy meal choice, including a vegetarian dish and salad, is available each day, followed by a selection of desserts and fresh fruit. All our meals are freshly prepared in our school kitchen.
At the beginning of term your child will bring home an information leaflet from the School Catering Service and the menu choices for that term.

As part of our status as a ‘Healthy School’, we encourage parents to provide a healthy choice for their children if they bring a packed lunch.

Lunch money is payable in advance to the school office, the kitchen will notify you when your credit is running low. Weekly or monthly amounts are preferred rather than payments for individual meals. Cheques for lunch payments should be made payable to ‘Telford & Wrekin Council’. Pupils bring lunch money in named envelopes. The catering cashier will deal with all monies and payments.
Payments can also be made online. You will need your child’s unique reference number this is available from the school office.

Free School Meals

Your child may be entitled to free school meals.

Universal Free School Meals

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to universal free school meals.

Snacks

Children are welcome to bring in healthy snacks or fruit for the morning break. Unhealthy crisps, sweets and chocolate bars are discouraged, as our aim is to establish healthy attitudes to food.

The school is a member of the National School Fruit Scheme and each Key Stage 1 child receives a free item of fruit daily.

All pupils may bring water into school in a named plastic bottle to encourage greater water intake throughout the day. Water coolers are available for pupils to refill their bottles.

Lunch Time

Menu’s, payment details can be found over in our Parents’ Area on our Lunch Menu & Payment page.
