Class 1 – Reception and Year 1

Welcome to Class 1 – Reception and Year 1

Hello and Welcome!

Welcome to Class 1 with Miss Jeffreys, Mrs Bustin, Mrs Jenkins and Mrs Wall.

Class 1 is home to our youngest learners at St Lawrence. It comprises of mixed nursery and reception children who work together and separately at different points in the day.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and we tailor our curriculum to support all learners. The children access the curriculum through teacher led and play based learning. They have half termly topics, with vehicle texts and themes to support their learning. This is ever evolving and is adapted based on the children’s interests.

EYFS Curriculum

The EYFS curriculum and Early Excellence practice plays a pivotal role in our learning at St Lawrence. The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum comprises of 7 areas of learning. These are:

Prime Areas

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Social and Emotional Development

These Prime areas underpin all other learning and are integral in gaining a good level of development.

Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Expressive Arts and Design
  • Understanding the World

Alongside the curriculum the children have the opportunity for enrichment such as trips and weekly Forest School sessions where they will learn a variety of skills from fire lighting to using saws and building shelters.
