Hello and Welcome!
Welcome to Class 1 with Mrs. Mountcastle and Miss Lloyd.
Class 1 is home to our youngest learners at St Lawrence. It comprises of a discrete Reception Class with a maximum intake of 14 children. Due to the small number of children, we can really focus on providing a holistic and tailored education.
The EYFS curriculum and Early Excellence practice plays a pivotal role in our learning at St Lawrence. The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum comprises of 7 areas of learning. These are:
Prime Areas
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Social and Emotional Development
These Prime areas underpin all other learning and are integral in gaining a good level of development.
Specific Areas
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Expressive Arts and Design
- Understanding the World
Alongside the curriculum the children have the opportunity for enrichment such as trips and weekly Forest School sessions where they will learn a variety of skills from fire lighting to using saws and building shelters.
The children access the curriculum through teacher led and play based learning. They have half termly topics, with vehicle texts and themes to support their learning. This is ever evolving and is adapted based on the children’s interests.
