Music Statement
The intention, here at St Lawrence, is to first and foremost help to make children feel that they are musical and develop a life-long love of music. We focus on developing the skills, knowledge and understanding the children need to become composers, performers and listeners.
We base our classroom music teaching upon the Charanga scheme of work, strengthening this through our use of resources such Hymntastic and Out of the Ark which allow the children to learn and rehearse traditional and modern Church music as well as other school songs. Our curriculum introduces children to a wide range of musical styles, traditions and musical genres. We are committed to developing a curiosity for the subject, as well as an understanding and acceptance of the validity and importance of all types of music, and an unbiased respect for the role that music may wish to be expressed in any person’s life. We aim to provide children with the opportunity to progress to the next level of their creative excellence.
We love watching the pupils perform, so we take part in events such as Telford Sings and Armonico Consort at the Royal Albert Hall, as well as talent shows and drama clubs including music.
