Rudolf Relay

On Friday 13th December, the children put on their antlers and took part in the Rudolph relay to raise money for the Severn Hospice. Children, walked, ran, hopped, skipped and jumped their way around the playground as many times as they could in order to raise sponsorship from family and friends. We continue to collect in sponsorship money and will update you with the total raised in the new year.

Self Drive Sleigh

Class 4 pupils were excited to join a live STEM lesson this week, with Jamie Shotton, a pioneer in the AI world and the self-driving cars industry. Children debated the pros and cons of self driving cars and the possible implications of technology taking over the human element of driving.

At the end of the session, children created a plan for their own self-driving sleigh for Santa.

KS2 Christmas Service

KS2 lit up the church with their Christmas performances by candle light this week. The children sang a wide range of songs, from traditional carols to modern hits and gave poetic readings to tell the story of the nativity.

Pupils wowed their parents with Hear the Bells, with the accompanying British Sign Language and an a cappella version of Silent night sung in a round. The church was beautifully dressed for Christmas, with candle light making it a truly atmospheric event.

UK Parliament Day

On Thursday 21st November, children worked in their houses for the day to find out more about British Values and our houses of Parliament.

During the day, children had the opportunity to consider the laws they would lobby for if they were an MP. It was lovely to hear the children passionately speaking about the topics they find important and linking their ideas to British and Christian Values.

Children also studied the Palace of Westminster and did some detailed sketches as well as a virtual tour. Finally, children considered how the British Values were aligned with Christian values and produced some thoughtful art work.

Harvest Festival

It was lovely to welcome parents and friends to our whole school Harvest Festival service in church. Our newest and youngest members of the school performed ‘Welcome to the Autumn Harvest’ alongside their year 1 class mates, whilst year 2 sang ‘Thank you Farmer’. Class 3 performed a ‘I’ll be Riding Tractors’ and Class 4 brilliantly sung and danced to ‘Lion’ by ELevation worship.

Our Spiritual Ambassadors and class 4 children gave readings and prayers.

School Values Day

Class 4 produced some great art work for our School Values day. Year 6 created images for the value of courage, based on the story of Daniel in the Lion’s Den, in the style of illustrator Nick Sharrat. Year 5 produced some beautiful stained glass images of the story of The Good Samaritan and then made their own care packages for people who are in need.

The care packages have been placed in our worship box, ready to and out to any of our community who are feeling lonely or upset. They include prayers and images to remind us that God loves us as well as practical items such as tissues and plasters and an elastic band to remind us to be flexible.

Filtering and separating

Class 4 have been investigating how best to separate mixtures. The children used items they found around school to make their own water filters and tested them out with a mixture of soil and water. The home made filters produced some good results, with all filtered water being much clearer than the mixture they started with.

Year 6 RE Debates 2024

Following our work on debating in class, Year 6 attended the RE debates at St George’s Primary school this term.

The debating team presented some well thought through arguments to answer the question ‘Should you always choose to be the Good Samaritan?’ Pupils linked their arguments to Christian values of compassion and kindness and came away with a draw. We are very proud of how articulately and confidently the spoke. Well done year 6!
