Easter Celebration

The sun shone on our fantastic Easter service yesterday. Due to an unexpected problem at the church, we changed venue at the last minute and performed our Easter celebration on the school grounds.

The children informed parents about Easter traditions and celebrations around the world as well as telling the Easter story through the eyes of Mary and the Disciples.

Eat Well

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week, the whole school took part in Eat Well workshops with Lydia. Children learned about the nutrition in foods and how to make sensible choices with food.

KS2 children were shocked to learn about how much sugar is in foods we regularly eat and KS1 children enjoyed tasking new foods.

New Reading Scheme!

Thanks to the hard work of our Amazing Friends of St Lawrence PTA, we have been able to invest over £3000 in a new reading scheme for KS2 pupils, building on the scheme we already have in place in KS1.

Children have been excited to take home their first books from the collection and we are delighted that every child will be able to access these brand new books as they move through the school.

KS2 First Aid

On Tuesday, Class 3 and 4 took part in first aid training as part of their PSHE work on ‘Healthy Me’. The children learnt how to dress wounds and use bandages and slings as well as completing basic CPR training and learning how to deal with choking.

Back in Time!

On Wednesday, Class 1 and 2 had a visitor from a bygone age. Children arrived at school in some amazing Victorian costumes and took part in a Victorian workshop, during which they were taught by a visitor in role as a Victorian teacher.

Evacuation Begins!

Class 4 have been writing some wonderful newspaper reports about the evacuation of children from towns and cities in 1939.

Flying High!

Class 4 enjoyed a fantastic day at RAF Cosford today, exploring the exhibits and taking part in a Spirit of the Blitz. Children investigated gas masks and other artefacts and had the chance to experience being in a Morrison shelter. Staff at the museum were very impressed with the knowledge and understanding our children had about WW2 and the Blitz.

Children also had chance to speak to a retired pilot of the Vulcan Bomber and asked some great questions.

A Whale of a Time!

Class 1 and 2 had a whale of a time when they visited the Blue Planet Aquarium in Chester earlier this week! As part of their geography learning on continents and oceans, the children got up close with a huge variety of sea life to experience first hand marine biodiversity on our planet.

Rudolf Relay

On Friday 13th December, the children put on their antlers and took part in the Rudolph relay to raise money for the Severn Hospice. Children, walked, ran, hopped, skipped and jumped their way around the playground as many times as they could in order to raise sponsorship from family and friends. We continue to collect in sponsorship money and will update you with the total raised in the new year.

Self Drive Sleigh

Class 4 pupils were excited to join a live STEM lesson this week, with Jamie Shotton, a pioneer in the AI world and the self-driving cars industry. Children debated the pros and cons of self driving cars and the possible implications of technology taking over the human element of driving.

At the end of the session, children created a plan for their own self-driving sleigh for Santa.
