World Book Day Door

The children in Class 2 did a wonderful job creating their own potions for the World Book Day door competition.

This design was linked to the well-loved book ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ and the children had some amazing ideas for medicine, including to be kind and to be a good Christian, as well as being young and a princess.

We also won the door competition, judged by Mr Battrick! Well done, Class 2!

Choir Rehearsal

This morning, the St Lawrence choir went over to Tibberton school to meet some of the Armonico Consort staff supporting the concert at the Royal Albert Hall to have a rehearsal together.

The children worked hard and sang very well, especially considering they have not heard some of these songs before.

We are very excited to share the performance with you, either in July in London, or performed in school for those family members unable to attend.

World Book Day

What a fabulous day we have had for World Book Day!

The children, and staff, looked amazing and have enjoyed book-based activities throughout the day: story time with different members of staff, craft activities, improv drama, bookmark design and more. The whole school has enjoyed getting involved and celebrating books and the joy of reading.

Winners of the ‘Design a Box’/ ‘Design a Potato’ competition were: Emmie, Elsie, Oliver and Owain. All of the entrants did a great job and we were so impressed.

Children also enjoyed taking part in story time in The Hideaway at lunchtime, led by our Year 4 sport leaders. They read with great expression and kept the interest of the children who came to listen.

With the launch of our Extreme Reading competition today, we look forward to seeing how reading takes place in your home, and also to keep the love of books going.

The Hideaway

We were pleased to show some of the children the inside of the newly-painted shed, now known as The Hideaway at lunchtime today!

The children were very excited and had lots of great ideas about how to use this space- reading, colouring, relaxing, dancing, sensory activities, so we would like to ask for your help in bringing this space more alive.

If you have any spare packs of colouring pens or pencils, any little plastic boxes that could be used to store things, anything like Play-doh or kinetic sand, we would love to use these to support children across school. Thank you.

Top Table

Our Top Table initiative for Friday lunchtimes began today.

These children were nominated by staff for their polite manners and good behaviour in the hall during lunchtimes this week .

We will be looking and listening from Monday for next week’s invitees!

Girls Football

Both schools competed brilliantly in the Telford Schools Football Competition with great effort, teamwork and sportsmanship.

St Lawrence finished a very valiant 7th and Tibberton played amazingly well to finish in 3rd place with a bronze medal.

Well done everyone; we are very proud of you.

Lunchtimes

We are pleased to announce the introduction of our Top Table for Friday lunchtimes, starting this week.

Children will be chosen for their super manners and behaviour during lunchtime to sit on the Top Table on Friday, where they will be waited on by staff, have special crockery and a specially set up dinner table.

Not every child can be chosen each week, but staff will try to spot everyone being brilliant.

We hope the children will enjoy this gesture in recognition of their wonderful behaviour.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is a popular app with adults and children, and can provide a free, easy to use way of communicating with others, but recently some of the children have been talking about feeling unsafe on this platform because their conversations are repeated to others, or screenshots are taken of them during conversations.

Please remember to talk to your children about their use of mobile technologies, so that we are working together to keep them safe. We will be doing some, age appropriate, work in school to support this part of the curriculum.

The following website has a great 6 minute read on the positives of WhatsApp, as well as the pitfalls to be aware of as we continue to work to keep all children safe: https://parentzone.org.uk/article/whatsapp#:~:text=WhatsApp’s%20main%20purpose%20is%20to,relatively%20safe%20social%20media%20app.

Lent

As we make our way through the special time of Lent, we wanted to share an approach you could try instead of giving something up.

Why not work as a family to try new things, or to do things for others? This way, we can have a positive impact on our communities, and enjoy the good feeling of making a difference.

Chinese Dragon Dance

This week we had a visit from a Chinese dragon dance expert who taught us how to perform this popular dance. We really enjoyed being the front of the dragon, and making the body twist and turn in time to the beat.

Can you find out more about dragon dances, and why the colour red is so popular?
