Eat Well

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week, the whole school took part in Eat Well workshops with Lydia. Children learned about the nutrition in foods and how to make sensible choices with food.

KS2 children were shocked to learn about how much sugar is in foods we regularly eat and KS1 children enjoyed tasking new foods.

New Reading Scheme!

Thanks to the hard work of our Amazing Friends of St Lawrence PTA, we have been able to invest over £3000 in a new reading scheme for KS2 pupils, building on the scheme we already have in place in KS1.

Children have been excited to take home their first books from the collection and we are delighted that every child will be able to access these brand new books as they move through the school.

KS2 First Aid

On Tuesday, Class 3 and 4 took part in first aid training as part of their PSHE work on ‘Healthy Me’. The children learnt how to dress wounds and use bandages and slings as well as completing basic CPR training and learning how to deal with choking.

Rudolf Relay

On Friday 13th December, the children put on their antlers and took part in the Rudolph relay to raise money for the Severn Hospice. Children, walked, ran, hopped, skipped and jumped their way around the playground as many times as they could in order to raise sponsorship from family and friends. We continue to collect in sponsorship money and will update you with the total raised in the new year.

St Lawrence Whole School Fieldtrip

On Thursday last week, the whole school went on a local fieldtrip, arranged by Mrs Mountcastle, our geography lead. We walked 4 miles around the locality, looking at farms, wildlife and examples of sustainability.

Children in Reception and Years 1 & 2 used a photograph map to find their way along the route, and the children from Years 3- 6 used OS maps.

Back at school, Reception made flatbread with some wild garlic we had collected, Class 2 carried on learning about native and local plants, Class 3 wrote about their adventure, and Class 4 made their own maps of the journey.

We were very proud of all the children, and look forward to the next fieldtrip.

World Book Day Door Design

The children in Class 3 held a competition to see who could come up with the best design for their classroom door- the chosen design was by Soraya, and I’m sure you’ll agree it was a great choice.

Chinese Dragon Dance

This week we had a visit from a Chinese dragon dance expert who taught us how to perform this popular dance. We really enjoyed being the front of the dragon, and making the body twist and turn in time to the beat.

Can you find out more about dragon dances, and why the colour red is so popular?

Happy New Year!

Welcome back to the start the Spring Term in class 3 and a very happy new year! We can’t wait to get started on our exciting learning.
